God's Simple Plan Of Salvation

Everyone is guilty of sin

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."  Romans 3:23

Salvation is a gift

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."  Romans 6:23

Confess your sin, believe and commit your life to Christ

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."  Romans 5:8

The results are positive and eternal

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved."  Romans 10:9

Anyone can be saved

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."  Romans 10:13

Do NOT put it off!

"...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of the salvation."  II Corinthians 6:2

A Simple Prayer of Salvation

"Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness.  I believe that You dies for my sins.  I now invite You to come into my heart and life.  I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior.  In Jesus' name.  Amen."

God's Assurance: His Word

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no man can boast."  Ephesians 5:8-9

Gods' Promise Of Salvation

"Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again."  John 3:5-7 NKJV

"Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: No one comes to the Father except through Me."  John 14:6 NKJV

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

"For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

"He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."  John 3:16-18 NKJV

The Bible You Have Is Exactly What God Wanted To Give You

God has guarded the Bible over the centuries so that what Christians have is what He wants them to have.  For many hundreds of years before the first printing press, scripture was copied by hand--carefully.  We can be sure it is God's Word to us.

"We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty"  2 Peter 1:16

The Structure Of The Bible

The Bible is a whole library of books.  Like a library, it's organized into sections.  First, it's divided into two main parts--the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The Old Testament contains 39 books:

  • Five books of the Law (Genesis to Deuteronomy) - Creation, Adam and Eve and the first sin, Noah, the patriarchs (Abraham to Jacob), Moses and the Exodus, the Israelites' wandering in the desert, and the rules God gave them.

  • Twelve books of History (Joshua to Ester) - the conquering and settling of Canaan, the judges, the kings of Israel and Judah, what happened when the kingdoms were conquered and taken captive by Assyria and Babylon, how the Jews came back to the land God Promised them, and how Ester saved them all.

  • Five books of Poetry (Job to Song of Songs) - instructions for life and wisdom about relationships with God.

  • Five Major Prophets (Isaiah to Daniel) and Twelve Minor Prophets (Hosea to Malachi) - the words and actions of some of the prophets God sent to Israel and Judah during the time of the kings, during the exile in Babylon, and during the first century after the Jews returned to their land.  They're called "major" and "minor" because of the length of the books, not their importance.

The New Testament contains 27 books:

  • Four Gospels or "good news" books (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) - separate accounts of Jesus, each with a different emphasis.

  • One book of History (Acts) - what happened after Jesus returned to heaven, how the news about Him spread through the Roman world, and how the church began.

  • Fourteen Letters or Epistles (Romans to Hebrews) - explanations of the Christian faith and instructions on how to follow Jesus, most of which were written by the apostle Paul.

  • Seven General Letters or Epistles (James to Jude) - guidance on Christian living written by other early church leaders.  These letters are "general" because they weren't addressed to any particular person or church.

  • One book of Prophecy (Revelation) - a vision the apostle John had while a prisoner on the island of Patmos; it talks about what will happen in the end, including the return of Jesus.
